Zirconium (Zr) is used in the construction of nuclear reactors. Along with uranium, it is an important material in the nuclear industry. It is also used in the manufacture of pumps and other machine parts. Furthermore, zirconium silicates are used as pigments in varying compositions as ceramic pigments. Zirconium phosphate is medically important in dialysis applications. The toxic effects of zirconium and its compounds are largely unknown.
