Metals in Water

Water and Animal Health

About 2/3 of an animal's weight is made up of water, which is distributed in cells, intestines, blood and throughout the body. If the necessary water intake is reduced by a tenth, health problems occur. Nutrients are no longer absorbed sufficiently; the body can no longer protect itself against toxins and the body temperature can no longer be maintained. Circulatory problems and colic can result.

Countries have their individual drinking water and groundwater regulations According to the German Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV §7), drinking water must not contain chemical substances in concentrations that cause damage to health. Guidelines or limit values have been set for this. The national parameter values must not be less strict than those of the EU Drinking Water Directive. The maximum permissible concentration of heavy metals in drinking water is therefore regulated. Important: distributors of drinking water are only obliged to ensure compliance with the limit values up to the end of their distribution network i.e. the city water company is only responsible for the water it delivers to a house, not what happens to the water in the house. Depending on the pipes used, the water quality can be impaired between the house inlet pipe and the tap.
